Mirrors, according to Feng Shui are very powerful. They don’t just reflect your image, they are used to double energy, amplify what you desire, and influence different areas of your life. They are one of my favorite Feng Shui enhancements! 🪞

I often get asked about mirrors in the bedroom and whether or not they cause harm in the bedroom. I even had one client tell me that she had heard that sleeping while facing a mirror can cause serious illness. So i am creating this guide to take the confusion away, and finally settle the debate about if mirrors in the bedroom are good Feng Shui.

Why mirrors are so powerful in Feng Shui

Before we get to where to put mirrors in the bedroom, i want to first explain why they are so powerful. In Feng Shui, they are considered active, yang energy tools.

They:

  • Reflect and multiply energy

  • Expand space

  • Activate Chi flow

They work really well in areas like:

  • Entryways

  • Dining rooms

  • Wealth corners

  • Dark or small rooms and spaces

In the bedroom however, this is where most people can get confused.

The bedroom is a Yin space.

It is meant to be restful, calm, intimate, grounded, and feel protective. A room where your nervous system relaxes, and your body heals and rests. ‘

Mirrors are Yang, reflective, and stimulating.

When mirrors are placed incorrectly in bedrooms, they can disrupt:

  • Sleep quality

  • Emotional safety

  • Romantic harmony

  • Hormonal balance

  • Subconscious peace

The #1 Feng Shui rule: Mirrors should never face you while you sleep

A mirror facing the bed is considered to be one of the most destabilizing bedroom placements.

Why? Because mirrors:

  • Reflect movement while you sleep

  • Create alertness, even when you don’t realize

  • Symbolically invite unwanted energy into your relationships

Many clients of mine who have had mirrors facing the bed have always had sleep issues, anxiety, that feeling of being watched or unsettled, and relationship tension.

Even if we just think of a mirror as a piece of decor, remember, everything is energy, and every object carries energy.

Mirrors & Relationships

Mirrors double whatever they are reflecting. If you have mirrors in your bedroom, assess what they are reflecting. When a mirror does reflect the bed it can:

  • Symbolically double people in the relationship. Maybe you always have people interfering in your marriage.

  • Create emotional distance as mirror expand energy.

  • Amplify unresolved issues.

This doesn’t mean you can blame the mirror for all of you relationship issues (Ha) it just means they amplify what already exists.

When mirrors can work in the bedroom

Even though mirrors should not face the bed, that doesn’t mean they are forbidden in the bedroom.

Mirrors can be used if:

  • They are inside a wardrobe or closet.

  • They are covered at night - especially a mirror that can’t be moved.

  • They do not reflect the bed.

  • They reflect something calming, like artwork with positive energy.

My bedroom is large and i definitely do have a mirror in there, but it faces a comfortable sofa that i love and i feel doubles the comfort energy in the room.

Best mirror placements in the bedroom:

Inside a closet or wardrobe

On a side wall - reflecting something beautiful

Covered at night

Mirror placements to avoid

  • Facing the bed

  • Reflecting the door

  • Reflecting clutter or dirty laundry

  • Oversized mirrors dominating the room

  • Multiple mirrors causing visual noise and chaos
